Description   Characteristics: Male domestic sheep are called rams. You can tell the difference from female sheep or ewes by their massive horns. The head ram in a herd of sheep will be the one with the biggest horns. Rams argue about who is the top sheep by “ramming” head-butting. Rams over three years old live separately from the ewes, unless they are mating. A rams black wool is not as valuable as white wool - when a ram has a hair cut it is called shearing. Height & Weight: Adult rams, depending on their breed can weight between 70 - 260 pounds. Ewes or female sheep are approximately 15 percent smaller.
