Description Technical Specs Extended Information   HobbyZone Firebird Commander 2, nothing as exciting as Anti-Crash Technology (ACT) has happened to entry-level radio-controlled planes since HobbyZone was introduced. Here’s how it works: Two sensors on the fuselage, one on the top and one on the bottom, monitor the position of the plane in relation to the ground. When the plane is flying level, the top sensor sees the sky while the bottom sensor sees the ground, and they tell the onboard computer (receiver) that the plane is flying correctly. If the plane enters a severe dive, the sensors detect the change in orientation and react to the danger that the plane is then in. The software in the receiver will then temporarily cut the motor, and correct the severe angle and pitch of the plane. This causes the nose to come up and pulls the plane out of the dive to help prevent the plane from crashing. The pilot is then able to regain control. If pilots are flying correctly and do not put the plane into a severe dive situation while ACT is engaged, they will have complete control of the plane’s flight pattern. Once users gain experience flying, they can turn ACT off. Now, you can take advantage of this technological development by purchasing a Firebird Commander 2. flies, with some concerns December 5, 2009 Reviewer: will from Massachusetts   As beginners we got this to fly hand launch, full throttle.  Don't try it if there is more than a light breeze.  It will sail off to the next county. Also, Make sure you have a huge clear area with no powerlines, etc. to try it. That's not as common as you think. A soccer field is not enough. Every time it "landed" the battery popped out - we almost lost it. Thank you for your feedback on this review. We appreciate your input!

Good beginner RC Plane February 10, 2009 Reviewer: Timothy Vehnekamp from Polk City, FL United States   Great plane to fly straight out of the box. Excellent instructions on construction and flying the plane. My first hand launch failed. All further hand launches have been easy with plenty if power. Beginners - keep looking September 2, 2008 Reviewer: Jim Giercyk from Greenville, SC United States   The construction is outstanding, perfect for a beginner, but that is where it stops.  I have not been able to get the thing off the ground with a hand launch, and the prop is mounted in such a way that I sliced my finger on one attempt.  The charger is inadequate in my opinion.  After spending close to $100 I have a plane that doesn't fly and scars on my fingers.  The plane looks great in my garage though.  As a newbie, I was turned off to R/C planes by the FBC2.  If you are a beginner, this is probably not the plane for you.  Search the R/C forums for some ideas and opinions on a first plane before you spend your money.  There are plenty of other good trainers/slow flyers on the market, and most of them actually fly.
